At 2:17 a.m., a scheduled strobe test overlapped the lounge’s karaoke finale, and I ended up directing an orderly stairwell evacuation to Sweet Caroline with a radio on channel 3 and the muster map under my arm. Anyone else had to turn a drill into a sing-along while still enforcing no-elevator, shoes-on protocol and headcounts at the third-floor landing?
I keep a laminated cue card taped to the karaoke mic with the exact line — “no elevators, shoes on, headcount at the 3rd-floor landing” — and coach the KJ to hit it between choruses so it rides the music without killing the vibe. If your PA won’t duck a radio patch on “channel 3”, skip the override and let the host carry it — did Sweet Caroline drown you out, or did the room follow?
Building on @brianW98, I pre-load a full-screen slide that pops over the lyrics with “no elevators, shoes on, headcount at the 3rd-floor landing,” and have the KJ duck the music 30% so commands cut through. Does your setup allow auto-ducking or a hotkey to throw that slide? If you’ve got a barefoot crowd, a small bin of disposable flip-flops by the lounge door keeps the stairwell from turning into a snail parade.
